Urban Sanctuary (original painting – one off sale)
Urban sanctuary. Inspired by Zealandia Te Mara a Tane wild life refuge in Wellington. I noticed that the western hill suburbs of Wellington are teeming with wonderful native birds right outside the window. Wellington is a sanctuary city where biodiversity is visably increasing, a taonga for everyone.
This painting is created from drawings about Karori and Kelburn.
There is something about art that transforms a space in the most delicious way. That perfect layer that adds exactly what you're craving for.
Because art isn't just about filling walls, it's about creating those pause-and-smile moments, those catch-your-breath spots that make your home uniquely yours. It's the layer that tells your story, adds your character and holds your heart.
My original work begins from a live sketch and is then transfered on to a piece of Saunders Waterford cold pressed 100% cotton paper 640gsm/300lb. Which is a very heavy grade of top quality paper that really lasts and looks beautiful under the layer of gouache paint. I love paper and pay alot of attention to this component of my work.
The paint is Windsor & Newton quality gouache, an opaque version of watercolour paint that creates soft yet vivid tones. The paper size is 76cm x 56cm.
